If the drive doesn't grab the disc, don't attempt to force it into the slot. It worked, thank you!! Thank you. I had the same issue, all CDs and DVDs were ejected after a few seconds and cleaning the optical drive with compressed air fixed it. Part 2... ummm.....
Couldn't get it to read a disc tonight. The ONLY thing it seems I haven't tried is reinstalling the OS X. Apple support is here to help you with all of your Apple products. Macbook Pro Won't Accept Disc maybe it's a known problem and/or part of a recall?

OMG! The diagnostics and status was showing everything was ok but refused to read or recognize the disks. I have the exact same problem. Check This Out If after restarting the MacBook the optical drive still produces unusual sounds, shut down the laptop.
It was very easy, a 30min job. Reset The Smc Macbook Pro I realized also that pressure came from moving the unit from one room to another whilst the laptop is still on and open. There's also a small trick to removing the airport card mount without breaking the little grounding tab that connects to the optical drive. It can deliver crisp output video and quickest DVD ripping speed. I've tested the DVD drive in a new user account. Insert another disc in the optical drive.
