Power may be locking the rotor via a thermal overload or something like that. I haven't checked with a voltage meter but it sounds like the AC unit has power. I can easily reach in with a stick and effortlessly spin the fan (with the power off of course). Try switching the thermostat HEAT/COOL switch to OFF. It messes up during the day but works great at night. If the fan doesn't run, try resetting the furnace circuit breaker.
